What criteria does my PDF pattern have to meet to be sold on LoveKnitting and LoveCrochet?

We love patterns of all shapes and sizes but we have a few key requirements to make this the best place to browse and buy patterns. Here are some guidelines on what we’re looking for from PDF patterns sold through LoveKnitting and LoveCrochet:

Do:

  • Convert patterns into PDFs, preferably under 25MB to make it easier for customers to download and store. The maximum PDF size is 100MB
  • Make sure patterns are complete and tagged with the relevant language.
  • Include clear, high-quality photography of the finished project
  • Make your patterns internationally friendly by including imperial and metric measurements for materials and needles. Also, if appropriate, please state which country’s knitting/ crochet terms you have used
  • Include measurements (imperial and metric) of the finished item
  • Help customers with a glossary of stitch and term abbreviations used in the pattern and in any charts, appropriate to the level of the pattern
  • Format your patterns so they are attractive and easy to follow. Patterns should be in an easy-to-read font and have headers for different sections of the garment. You may want to consider developing your signature ‘pattern style’ before you start out so it is easier to replicate for each pattern you design

Don’t:

  • Include obvious advertising. You can include a link to your personal website, but we discourage advertising of other products and services through the website
  • Include content you don’t own the copyright to, such as other people’s designs
  • Include blank pages. Consider how the pattern will print if customers choose to do so
